Sarah Tesar, Australia / November-December 2008

Sarah Tesar

Melborn, Australia

Education: Monash University
Languages: English

I was fortunate enough to work as an intern at Heskia-Hacmun Law Firm from November until December 2008. I found this to be a truly valuable learning experience where I was able to apply what I’d learnt from Monash University in Australia in an International forum.

Initially, I was concerned about whether my Australian legal education would be sufficient. However, the firm was helpful in ensuring that I always properly understood and was capable of completing all my tasks. I was given diverse and interesting assignments, which facilitated me to develop and apply my legal knowledge. I worked on many team assignments, which also made the work very enjoyable and enabled me to develop my teamwork skills. The work ranged from case and contract reviews, editing and translating legal documents and legal research. I was also invited to participate in the many social events that the firm hosted or participated in. I really enjoyed working in such a friendly environment where I was warmly welcomed from my first interview.

My internship was also a very international experience where I was working along side employees and interns from Germany, Brazil, USA and Israel. This allowed me to compare and contrast the varying legal systems, legal profession and legal education of these differing countries. It further provided me with an understanding of other different cultures whilst already experiencing the Israeli way of life.

In addition, I also found Heskia-Hacmun Law Firm to be flexible and accommodating. I really felt that they wanted me to not just gain a legal insight into Israel, but also have a fulfilling cultural and tourist experience by taking advantage of everything that Tel Aviv and greater Israel have to offer. They ensured that my work did not impinge on my tourist activities in Israel but just gave me a more meaningful experience here.

I really appreciated, benefited from and enjoyed working at Heskia-Hacmun Law Firm and the experience of both living and working in Tel Aviv, the city that never sleeps. The internship gave me a deeper insight into both German and Israeli Legal Systems. I would really recommend Heskia-Hacmun Law Firm as a way to consolidate and apply legal studies to anyone looking to intern in Israel.

I am contactable at sarahtesar@hotmail.com for further advice about the internship or living in Israel.
