Lisa Wiese, Leipzig Germany / February – March 2019

Lisa Wiese (Saxony, Leipzig, February – March 2019)

As part of my elective station I was with the international law firm Heskia-Hacmun in Tel Aviv, Israel, for two months. The attorneys of the firm are all extraordinarily kind, helpful and competent. The cases are very exciting and you will get a good insight not only into Israeli law but also Israeli-Jewish culture. I had the opportunity to be present at client interviews with Holocaus survivors and to do an interview myself. Beyond I took part in a trial before the Supreme Court in Jerusalem (Israeli BGH) in  a precedent case which was very exciting. Besides cases of reparation and restitution for Holocaus victims or their heirs, I gained insight into various cases of discrimination and contract review in the area of corporate and inheritance law.

The working atmosphere in the firm is particularly positive. All employees are motivated, humorous, attentive and always ready to answer questions or to explain cases. As a trainee you are expected to be proactive and perform assigned tasks reliably. The office is directly near the beach and has a great view of the sea. In my time there were other interns and trainee lawyers in the firm, so that I had always company.

During my stay I also had the opportunity to travel around the country and get to know the Jewish society and culture. Israel is unbelievable versatile, the food is incredibly good and the weather invites you to go swiming in the sea. However what should be considered during a stay in Tel Aviv are the high cost of living.

All in all it was a great time, rich in experience which I would not want to miss.
